Who are we?
I’m Karen, an illustrator and designer with 17 years of experience as a creative professional. Ten of those as a freelancer. My background is in advertising, where I worked as an art director and learned a lot about marketing, branding and the business side of the creative world. As a bit of a disorganised, head in the clouds creative, I totally understand how overwhelming the business side of things can be. I also know that if I can do it, so can you! I love helping fellow creatives on their way to making a living doing what they love.
Steph Ferreira from YTT Branding is my good friend, marketing expert and all-round lovely person. Organised to my messy, she is both a big thinker and detail orientated. She has a business science with honours in Marketing from our very own UCT. Steph has 15 years of working experience. She started her career in London and has worked for some of the top advertising agencies in Cape Town, such as Ogilvy, FCB and King James. For the last four years, she’s been working as a brand manager for a luxury safari company. Steph has worked across many different brands from little ones like me–Karen Vermeulen illustration to mega big brands like Coca Cola.
What happy attendees had to say about our previous workshop:
I learned so much and I don’t know how I will ever be able to say thank you. Besides inspiring me so much you have given me the permission to be less perfect and create with more intent- for that I will forever be grateful. I will recommend your workshop to anyone looking to learn and grow in their creative endeavours. I cannot wait for the next one! Thank you – absolutely fantastic! – Nelri Malan
I participated in Karen’s Creative Entrepreneur workshop on the 27/03/2021 and I found it to be a very thorough workshop that was well thought out and covered many aspects of my concerns as a creative entrepreneur. I would recommend this workshop to other creative’s who are looking to get their work and their brands out in the public sphere. – Theodor Van der Merwe
The one day workshop “Monetize your Art” gave me so much food for thought but also more direction on where I need to look as an artist to sell my art. Thank you so much! – Melissa Williams
